Our Girls’ Journeys of Success
2019: Miss Alyse Fowlks
Hello Everyone, my name is Alyse Fowlks and I am a young 17 year-old African American female. I attend Pittsburgh Science & Technology Academy in Oakland, Pittsburgh. This upcoming school year I will be a senior. After high school I hope to become an epidemiologist or a neurologist. I heard about the Ruth’s Way program from my Stepmom Rashawn Baugh through a text message. I thought after the program was over I was going to receive an actual scholarship, but I gained valuable information, skills and knowledge from the program. Ms. Amy, Mrs. Isis and Ms. Camilla have helped me personally by expressing their previous experiences with life and its essentials. On one of the Saturdays during the program Ms. Camilla told all of the young women in the program that women tend to not share their accomplishments and not express them with people because they don’t want to seem like they are showing off or boasting. For me that personally helped my self-esteem with letting me know it’s okay to let people know what I’ve done inside and outside of school. It’s not that everyone needs to know, but It can even push someone else to do better in life from you achieved.
2019: Miss Daniya Robinson
“Thank u Ms. Isis and Ms. Cara for this program. It will help me in the future.” Daniya Robinson
“JB”: Congratulations on being nominated and awarded the Irene O. Bartko award for your determination and perseverance in demonstrating true success in achieving self-sufficiency! During our journey with her, JB has secured and retained her new job, established reliable child care for her son, enrolled in post-secondary school for nursing, obtained her Learner’s Permit, and successfully established her own housing for herself and her son! Even beyond the above goals already achieved, JB still currently strives to continue her ongoing quest to make a better life for herself and her son.
“NH”: CONGRATULATIONS “NH” on your 1st JOB!!! Not only that, but she has earned her way back into her mom’s home after she was transferred to her grandmother behind her behavior. But now, she is back on track and back with her loving mother!!!! After transferring schools. she has managed to bring all of her grades up and is maintaining her FRESH START. She now appreciates her mom and stopped her “unacceptable” behaviors because she says that she sincerely WANTS TO SUCCEED IN LIFE!!!
“RL”: We are so proud of you “RL”!!!! You’ve come such a long way!!! When we first met, “RL” was a new mom, she had stopped going to school, she didn’t have a job, and she didn’t have any viable work experience. But she did have what many of us lack, she had a sincere desire to ACHIEVE…….to achieve a better life for her and her daughter…….to achieve the level of greatness that she has been called to as a phenomenal, virtuous young woman! Today, she is still actively working towards her higher calling, she has successfully graduated from high school and obtained her official diploma; even after she gave birth to her second beautiful baby girl and all the chips appeared to be stacked up against her. She has established employment with 3 different agencies and recently obtained employment working at one of the city’s major hospitals, all while dedicating her life to growing into an awesome mother and raising her 2 gorgeous daughters!!!
This picture is just a small expression of how her hard work has truly paid off…. no, it’s not a picture of her paycheck…., it’s that moment when she comes home from work, and her daughter embraces her because she is so happy to see her mommy, like somehow. Her, the tiny little mind knows each and every hurdle that her mommy has overcome…. and each and every milestone that she has surpassed….. all because of her love and determination to achieve the level of greatness that God has spoken into their lives.
Yes, “RL”, we are ALL very proud of you!!!
UPDATE: RL has moved out of her older sister’s house and successfully obtained her own home for her and her daughters!!!!!!
