Dear PPS Families,
I hope you and your child(ren) were able to go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather today.
Take a Father to School Day – Friday, May 15th
This Friday, May 15, we would like fathers and father figures along with their child(ren), to participate in a social media campaign for Take a Father to School Day (TAFSD) by submitting photos or short videos. In support of the 2020 Census, this year’s theme is #YouCount, and dads can show us how they count by sending pictures of their family working together in remote learning. Inbox the PPS Facebook page your pictures to be shared on social media. Below are ideas for photos/videos.
– Show teachers/staff that students miss them & are thinking about them.
Show school pride.
– Submit photos or a video reading to your children or working together in instructional packets.
– Demonstrate learning that is happening in the home (i.e., cooking, baking, etc.)
– Create or share a story (in a student’s handwriting or drawing) of their favorite time of day with their father.
– Make a family music video to a favorite song.
– Submit videos of father-child playing together; cute pets are welcome in videos (30-60 seconds).
On Friday, May 15 at Noon, join the Take a Father to School Day Committee and PPS fathers on Facebook live for a special virtual roundtable discussion.
Our student leaders have stepped up to lead voter registration efforts in our district through an online forum. Student Voice Leaders are creating an online promotional campaign to educate students on the registration guidelines, voting opportunities, and information on the candidates. The student leaders are busy designing a structure for our website, creating online brochures and educational materials, fact-checking, and working with students from the University of Pittsburgh to provide high quality, equitable, and accurate communications. Follow the PPS Student Voice social media and the website at www.pghschools.org/SACvotingcampaign for more information!
Virtual Summer Dreamers Academy- Application Open Until May 29
This summer, we will be holding our premier no-cost Summer Dreamers Academy virtually. The camp will be available for current Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students. It is anticipated to run from June 29 through August 5. The daily schedule will be shortened and will incorporate fun and engaging camp activities that our campers and families have come to enjoy. Campers will log in to camp virtually and will be able to join activities through Microsoft Teams. We will continue to make sure that campers have access to the technology required to participate in the program. Families interested in applying can find the application at www.pghschools.org/summerdreamers and apply using their Home Access Center (HAC) username and password. For help with your HAC credentials, please call 412-529-4357. For assistance with the online application, please leave a message at 412-529-2454 and a team member will return your call as soon as possible.
